Refunds. No Drama.

The short version

Modules (£49.99 standalone):

• Within 14 days of purchase — full refund, no questions asked, even if you've downloaded the module
• Refund route: back to the same card or PayPal account used at checkout, via Payhip

Tutoring programmes:

• Private Mentorship and the Mastery Programme: refundable pro-rata for the weeks not yet delivered, less £25 for each module already opened — see section 5 for the exact calculation
• Exam Technique Intensive: refundable pro-rata for the sessions not yet delivered, on the same basis
• Cancellations: at least 6 hours before the session — reschedule or refund at no cost; less than 6 hours or no-show — session counts as delivered

How to request either: email hello@lawbylak.co.uk from the address used when you bought or agreed your programme, with "refund please" and the date. We reply within 48 hours; bank/card refunds typically take 3–5 working days.

1. Your statutory right (and why we go further)

Under the UK Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, consumers have a 14-day cancellation right on most online purchases. For digital downloads, that right is normally lost once you begin downloading — because you've effectively consumed the product.

We waive that exclusion. You get the 14 days regardless of whether you've downloaded the module. If the content isn't right for you — wrong specification, wrong topic depth, just not what you expected — we refund you. We'd rather lose £49.99 than have a student feel ripped off.

2. How to request a refund

For a module refund, email hello@lawbylak.co.uk with:

• The email address you used at Payhip checkout (so we can locate your order)
• The module(s) you want refunded (e.g. "Topic 9 ABH")
• A short reason if you want (helps us improve — but you don't have to give one)

For a tutoring refund, email hello@lawbylak.co.uk with:

• The email address you used when your programme was agreed
• Which programme you are on
• Which sessions have been delivered so far (if any) so we can calculate the pro-rata refund on unused sessions

That's it. No form to fill in, no chatbot to argue with. Lak reads every email personally.

3. Processing

• We aim to process refund requests within 48 hours of receiving them
• Payhip processes the actual refund to your original payment method
• Your card issuer or PayPal typically credits the refund within 3–5 working days; some banks are faster, some slower — that part is out of our hands
• If you don't see the refund after 7 working days from our confirmation email, let us know and we will check Payhip's status

4. What happens to your access after a refund

When a refund is processed, your purchase is reversed and the download link from the original order email is voided. Please delete any downloaded files from your devices. Continued use of refunded content is a breach of our Terms of Service and our IP rights.

5. Tutoring refunds — full detail

5.1 Free trial. The free trial costs nothing, so there is nothing to refund.

5.2 Private Mentorship and the Mastery Programme — pro-rata for weeks remaining. Refundable at any time within the six-month programme period on a pro-rata basis. Both programmes run for 24 weeks. Formula: refund = (fee paid) × (weeks remaining ÷ 24). Examples:

• Stopped before the first week → full refund of the fee paid
• Stopped after 8 of the 24 weeks → two-thirds of the fee paid
• Stopped after 18 of the 24 weeks → one quarter of the fee paid

Modules you have already opened. Every LawByLak module you have accessed during your programme stays yours to keep. Because those modules are a real part of what the programme costs, a refund is reduced by £25 for each module already accessed — half the £49.99 standalone price. A refund is never reduced below zero, and modules you have not opened are not counted.

Worked example: you stop after 8 of the 24 weeks and have opened 4 modules. Refund = two-thirds of the fee you paid, less 4 × £25 = £100.

5.3 Exam Technique Intensive — pro-rata for sessions remaining. Refundable at any time within the twelve-week programme period. Formula: refund = (fee paid) × (sessions remaining ÷ 8). If you have had 2 of the 8 sessions, the refund is three-quarters of the fee paid. The same £25-per-module adjustment applies, and modules you have not opened are not counted.

5.4 Cancellation vs. refund. Cancelling an individual private session, clinic or coaching session more than 6 hours before the start time reschedules it (or, if you request, refunds that session at pro-rata value). Cancelling with less than 6 hours' notice, or not attending, forfeits the session with no refund (see section 6). Group masterclasses run at a fixed time for everyone attending and are not rescheduled individually; if you miss one, the recording is provided. If Lak cancels a session for exceptional reasons (illness, technical failure), it is rescheduled at no cost or refunded at your option. As a goodwill gesture, one missed session per programme can be reinstated if you email within 24 hours and explain what happened. Illness, exams and family emergencies happen, and I would rather rebook you than keep your money.

5.5 Programme length. Sessions not taken within the programme period (six months for Private Mentorship and the Mastery Programme, twelve weeks for the Exam Technique Intensive) are forfeited — no refund. To pause a programme for exceptional circumstances (serious illness, exam conflict), contact hello@lawbylak.co.uk before the programme ends.

6. No-show policy

If you don't attend a booked session and don't cancel at least 6 hours before the scheduled start:

• Private sessions, clinics and coaching sessions: the session counts as delivered and is deducted from your programme
• Group masterclasses: these run for everyone at a fixed time, so a missed masterclass is not rescheduled — the recording is provided instead

Lak reserves discretion to waive this in genuine emergencies (medical, family bereavement, exam clash). Email hello@lawbylak.co.uk with brief context and Lak will handle it personally.

7. Bundle refunds (modules)

If you bought a bundle (e.g. the Manslaughters bundle, or the All Criminal Law bundle) and want to refund:

• Within 14 days: full bundle refund, no questions asked
• After 14 days: bundles cannot be partially refunded (we can't refund "just one topic" out of a discounted bundle)

8. After 14 days

After the 14-day window, refunds are at our discretion. We will consider requests where:

• There is a material technical problem with the module (broken file, missing content)
• The module materially misrepresented what it contains
• You accidentally bought a duplicate of a module you already own

We will not normally refund "change of mind" requests after 14 days, but we read each email and respond personally — there is no algorithm to argue with.

9. Chargebacks

If you have a problem with a purchase, please email us first. Chargebacks (disputing the transaction with your bank or card issuer without contacting us) cost us money and time we'd rather spend writing better revision content. We will always try to resolve things directly — usually within a few hours of your email.

10. Free guides and email content

The free guides (e.g. /actus-reus-explained, /mens-rea-explained) and email list content are free of charge and have no refund applicable. If you want to stop receiving emails, click the unsubscribe link in any email — instant removal.

11. Refunds for content updates

When we update a module you've already bought (e.g. additional case law, examiner-report alignment for a new spec point), the update is sent free of charge to your original purchase email — no need to re-buy. If you cannot find an update email, contact us and we'll resend.
